Liberated But Not Free

London Galley West (2023)

The exhibition "Liberated But Not Free" showcased the experiences of Eritrean women during the country's war of independence. It used seven projectors to display their poignant words, along with videos and audio. These women, including family members and soldiers, shared stories of sacrifice, resilience, and resistance. Despite their significant contributions, they faced societal marginalization. The exhibition also included photographs exploring identity and used a unique language blending Arabic, English, and Tigre. The goal was to honor these remarkable women and prompt viewers to contemplate the complexities of liberation and ongoing struggles for true freedom.
